I went to see The Darjeeling Limited last night and I cannot get this song out of my head. This is not a movie for kids and most adults...it is very quirky, very. So if you need an offbeat weird movie, then go, otherwise go see Bella, I hear is it is very good.

Remember the Archbishop in prayer
Well if you did not hear it this weekend at Mass, our own Archbishop Wilton Gregory will undergo surgery next Monday 5 November. Please keep him and his doctors and nurses in your prayers. Also why you are at it add Fr. Richard Tibbets in your prayers as well, since he was readmitted to the hospital Saturday night.

This is Richard Green, he is 40 years old today. Tomorrow he will be sworn in as a lawyer in Utah...so many things happening in a few short days. This plus a great wife, wonderful kids and a new house soon. Happy Birthday Richard.
my priesteem is hurting...but not as much
Well we lost...AGAIN...but this time the score was much closer 40-27 (btw 27 is a new high score for our team). Next week we play St. Theresa's from Douglasville. Neither St. Theresa's team nor ours has won...so someone will win next week for the first time. They are billing this game as the "battle of the basement". It will be 4pm at Our Lady of Mercy, come on out and cheer on our team. Go St. Matthew...Kill murder beat...win the game against St. Theresa!

Fires in California

CRS final moments
Busy time

This morning we are starting with a talk from author Jeffry Odell Korgen. He has a book out called Solidarity Will Transform the World. It is a good book of stories of how CRS is helping change the face of the world. I encourage you get it (here or here) and read it. Maybe we can get it for an adult education piece for the parish. Meetings all day on Wednesday (and Thursday)
Deacon Bill and I (and other Global Fellows) will be in meetings all day tomorrow...our fearless leader Mikaele will keep us going all day, so probably will not see much posting here...not that you saw much today, but if I see something I just can't wait to share I will mblog it. Peace
Morning prayer and Morning Buzz
I had a very refreshing night of sleep here at FMS (btw here is the link to the program Chris is with) Anyway, I woke up this morning to have morning prayer at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. I really like praying under the protection of the image of such a strong Christ. This image of Christ has always struck me and held a special place for me, when I feel weak and frail, there he is always in the back of my mind, covering my every move and a sign to anyone who would come close to do me harm he says..."Not to this one you don't!"
So as I continued my prayer these two gems showed themselves as part of today's morning prayer.

At FMS (Franciscan Mission Service) House!
So I made it to DC and the house where Chris Allison is in formation before heading to Papua New Guinea early next year. Chris seems to be doing well and thriving in his new surroundings and the people he is here with are wonderful as well. They gave me food and wine when I walked in the door, what a crowd. They all were just on retreat last week and back to class work this week...some fun I am sure. Well our Chris is doing well, I will make sure he tells us some of the work he will be doing before he leaves. Keep Chris and his classmates in your prayers as they prepare themselves for the mission ahead.

FIRE FIRE FIRE
Ok maybe not fire, but lots of smoke. I was headed to the Metro train and all i found was lots of smoke. The firemen are down there now trying to figure out the whole thing but for me I found a hotspot (internet that is) and I am surfing for a while, thought I would post a bit.
Off to DC and Baltimore
Deacon Bill and I are flying to BWI today for meetings with CRS. You know that I have been working with CRS for a couple of years now, but here is some great news Deacon Bill has recently been accepted into the Global Fellows Program as well. Deacon Bill has orientation on Tuesday and then we have combined meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.
Since I was headed up that way, I am taking a side trip to DC to see one of our parishioners Chris Allison. Chris is studying in DC with the Franciscans, before heading into the missions early next year. I will post more info when I get it. Peace

I tell people never to give me food, because it usually goes to waste/waist, but at least when I freeze it now I know how long it will last. Read this for more info. Enjoy

First new home

my priesteem is hurting...again
Today was not a great day on the basketball court, we lost again...interestingly almost the same score 63-18, Brad Downs was a three point magician today. A good game all around by both teams. I would like to thank Our Lady of Lourdes basketball team, they could have massacred us, but they did not, thanks guys. As for this beating and last weeks...well this one was a more thorough beating, last week they just got lucky ;-)

Fall Festival
We had our parish fall festival tonight. Here are some photos of the fun.

How much?
Ok, so this weekend will be our Return to the Lord in our Adventures in Stewardship. If you need to be brought up to speed you can read this article from the Georgia Bulletin. From a pastoral perspective this has been a wonderful success. It is so nice to see people using the gifts and talents they have been given, in service to the Lord. Anyway... I am not sure if you have read The Wisdom of Crowds but I was wondering what you think the monetary return will be...? Remember we gave out $16,000. Post your guess/thoughts and lets see who is closest...who knows maybe the average will be right on the money, we just might prove James Surowiecki correct. So what do you think...How much? BTW, this is just for fun, but if you guess the amount within $100, I will buy you breakfast at Waffle House or dinner at Taco Bell.

Sick Day
I woke up about 10 times last night (sore throat, cats, sore throat, and some combination of the two, Rosie on the other hand was enjoying her new house...pictures to come--of the dog house not my illness). Anyway sick sick sick (illness-wise) and I was going nowhere. Deacon Bill did a communion service, thanks Deacon Bill. Fr. Michael Kingery from Holy Trinity drove me to the Dr. (thanks Fr. Michael) and I was on the road to recovery. Rest, Drugs and lots of water later I am feeling a bit better.
Tonight I watched PBS and really enjoyed the Nature 25th Anniversary show. Try to catch it if you can, lots of really neat stuff. I have a degree in natural science and I learned quite a bit. Just a warning, keep your Kleenex close by you will need it. Oh and if you listen to NPR, give them a few bucks, so this fall fund drive will be over...I just want to hear one hour of news without a give give give speech.

VATICAN CITY, OCT 16, 2007 (VIS) - Benedict XVI has written a Message to Jacques Diouf, director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the occasion of World Food Day, an annual event organized by the FAO every October 16.
With the theme chosen for this year's Day, "the right to food," writes the Holy Father in his message, the FAO "is inviting the international community to face up to one of the most serious challenges of our time: freeing from hunger millions of human beings, whose lives are in danger because of a lack of daily bread."
"We must realize that the efforts made thus far do not seem to have significantly diminished the number of hungry people in the world," the Pope observes, "despite the fact that everyone recognizes that food is a primary right. ... The available data shows that the lack of fulfillment of the right to food is due not only to natural causes but, above all, to situations provoked by human behavior which lead to a generalized social, economic and human deterioration."
The Pope goes on to recall how "an ever greater number of people - because of poverty or bloody conflicts - find themselves obliged to abandon their homes and their loved ones in order to seek sustenance outside their own lands, Despite international agreements, many of them are rejected" he adds, highlighting the "pressing" need for a concrete undertaking in which "all members of society, both in the individual and the international spheres, feel committed to cooperating in order to make the right to food possible." The lack of fulfillment of this right, he says, "constitutes an evident violation of human dignity and of the rights deriving therefrom."
The Holy Father then goes on to praise the FAO's expert understanding of "the problems of the agricultural world and of food insecurity, and its proven capacity to present plans and programs for their solution" as well as the organization's "acute sensitivity to the aspirations of those calling for more human living conditions."
"The Catholic Church," he concludes, "feels closely involved ... in this task and, through her various institutions, wishes to continue collaboration in order to support the desires and hopes of those individuals and peoples towards whom the activity of the FAO is directed."

my priesteem is hurting
How do you like that new word? Well after our St. Matthew basketball team was beaten and beaten badly (63-16..OUCH!) my priest+esteem is somewhat intact, somewhat. Here are the photos to show the fun we had. Enjoy? ;-) I like the photo of me on the bench...ahhh good times!
