Okay folks here is another Japanese video of the moon. This one does not end so well. This is the reconstructed last moments of SELENE. It is pretty stunning, although not as stunning as the other videos below of SELENE doing its work imaging the moon. Make sure to watch the videos in HD...really cool. More info here. Enjoy

Busy Sunday

Well today I could not get back to sleep once I woke up at 5:30AM, so I got cleaned up and went to the 7:30 Mass with Fr. Leo (our host) in Japanese. After Mass, a nice breakfast of cornflakes and yogurt. Then a short nap...finally I was sleepy. After the main Mass it was time for the parish bazaar. Fr. Paul went and cleaned house, so I had to take a crack at it and I did the same, lots of cool stuff to buy, oh and the food! Here are a few photos from the bazaar.

After the parish stuff, Fr. Paul and I headed off to a local Shinto festival. It was crazy fun. Right after we stepped off the train we were greeted with this spectacle.

After all that fun we went up to the main shrine and the grounds around the shrine. Then back down the hill for the main drag and more mobile shrines. All along the route were game booths and food stalls. This festival had a similar vibe to the parish bazaar...lots of very happy people! Here is a video of a local shinto band on their cart being pulled down the street.

Most of the stores and homes along the festival route were visited by a traveling shrine and shinto clergy. The family made an offering (money, food and sake) to the local deity (held in the mobile shrine) and then their place was officially blessed for the year. The folks you see in this video were kind enough to share their sake with us, yum!

It was a great day all around. The weather was the best we have had. The food and festivals were great. After all that fun we went to Tonki for pork cutlets, yummy (photos of that are forthcoming). We are off to the mountains tomorrow for a few days of retreat, so this might be the last post for a while. Until next time here are the photos from the shinto festival today. Peace

Ramen

You know ramen...NO, not this stuff, but this dreamy, silky, sultry, creamy soup with noodles. I went to have my first real bowl of ramen tonight. I went to Ippudo and it was fantastic. The meal was too too much! I tried to eat the whole bowl, but it was too rich and creamy to finish. The noodles were great but the broth was to die for. Here is the bowl just after I mixed in all the fixins the waiter told me to mix in.

Here is the bowl a full ten minutes later...does not seem as if I am making a dent in this stuff. Oh, my it was good.

And now here 8 minutes later and I think I can see the end of the race. I was so satiated at this point, I just wanted to sleep and enjoy the feeling.

This last photo was 5 minutes later...when I threw in the towel. I could not finish the whole bowl. I was too much...and did I tell you they gave me another serving of noodles, so that took up quite a bit of room. But I could not and did not finish, but I can still taste the wonderful flavors and remember the great tastes. Ever eaten real ramen? This franchise also has a place in NYC if you ever get there.

A great prank!

This is fun!

NOISE!!!

Well I am sure you remember the hail storm we had a few months back. We when I was away on my cruise they put a new roof on the house, FWIW the cats did not care for all the noise. Well today the church and the office get new roofs. It has been noisy here all day and the mess they are making is truly amazing. Oh, did I tell you it was noisy? I know the videos are not relaying the noise, but trust me it is annoying. Luckily I had to go to a funeral today for a few hours or I could not have survived. Here are some photos and videos from the joy of today!

Speed up & slow down...

...& blow your mind. Enjoy!

This takes a while to get there...

...but the final part of this video is well worth the wait, oh and totally cute!

Cats need a good home, can you help?

These cute cats need a good home. They belong to some parishioners of St. Matthew. The family who has them will attest to their qualities, but they are moving and the cats cannot go with them, can you help? Let me know!

Here is the description from the family.
All cats have had all their shots and meds. They are box trained and LOVE people and kids. They will put up with anything. All cats are indoor cats and do not have any diseases or worms, and all are declawed in the front. All are available for free.

Mass downtown

NFPC is now in the city for Mass at the Cathedral. Beautiful huh?

Help help help if you can!

Some of our parishioners are in need of some help. We have a few
kids from St. Matthew competing in a state speech and debate
tournament in Fayetteville and the coordinators (other parishioners)
are in dire need for judges for today, tomorrow and Thursday. No
experience necessary. I judged this tournament last year and was
amazed at the skill of these kids. If you have some time and would
be able to help then give a call to Mary Sue Goza 678.860.2370 she
(and the kids) will be very appreciative. Again they are in need so
if you can (remember no experience necessary) give a call and head
on over to Fayetteville, you won't be diasapointed!

UPDATED: Thanks to those who went. The tournament was quite successful.

NFPC

I am away at a conference until Friday. Don't I look happy? Yesterday
we had an all day seminar with Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI, it was
wonderful! This morning we hear from Cardinal Mahoney and again Fr.
Rolheiser. It will be double duty for me working not only for the
Archdiocese but also helping with CRS. It should be some fun. More
later!

Ask a stoopid question...

...get a stoopid answer! A cute story I got from my mom, thanks mom!

Yesterday I was buying a 2 large bags of Purina dog chow at Wal-Mart, for
my dogs Winston, Chief, Gus, and Maximus.

I was about to check out when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
What did she think, that I had an elephant?

Since I had little else to do, on impulse, I told her that no, I didn't
have a dog, and that I was starting the Purina Diet again, although I
probably shouldn't because I ended up in the hospital last time. On the
bright side though, I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive
care ward with tubes coming out of every hole in my body and IVs in both
arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way
that it works is to load your pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat
one or two every time you feel hungry and that the food is nutritionally
complete so I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that
practically everyone in the line was enthralled with my story by now.)

Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog
food had poisoned me. I told her no; I had stopped in the middle of the
parking lot to lick my butt and a car hit me.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack, he was
laughing so hard!

WAL-MART won't let me shop there anymore.

I got this from my mom!

Just a bad pun about a bunny before Easter.

"What are you doing in there?" she asked.

The rabbit replied: "This is a Westinghouse, isn't it?",
to which the lady replied, "Yes."

"Well," the rabbit said,

"I'm westing."

Just a taste of bunny before Easter.

Palm Sunday in Oklahoma

Well Grandma, Grandpa and Mom seem to be doing well...at least all smiles. Grandma is still having a rough time of things with the broken leg, not much for get up and go these days with the immobilizer on her leg. Mom says she is a bit confused and since the break it is easier to get her out of bed on the side Grandpa usually sleeps on so he is a bit more confused because of having to sleep on the other side of the bed. Mom is keeping her spirits up and looking forward her Alaska cruise this summer with her favorite child*.

In other health news Rosie is doing somewhat better, but still guarded. The blood results indicate that things are going better with her liver, but she is still not out of the woods.

*that should be "favorite child who is also a priest"

I WANT TO DO THIS

I guess I need to get to South Africa ASAP!

Juxtapa what????

Street signs.

I hate seeing all sorts of signs advertising stuff on the corners these days. After the hail storm there were tons of roof repair signs up. They drive me nuts. Well these signs popped up on the corner of Highway 74 & Sandy Creek, argghhhh. I thought about stopping and taking them down but I have been busy this week. Well on Wednesday I was on my way to Christian City (a local nursing home) and saw that these guys had put there sign on the corner of a small local cemetery...I could not let this stand. So I stopped and uprooted them, after that I called the company to complain. I took them home and made my own sign., which you can see below. I went out today to put my sign out and to uproot their two signs on my street. I now have another sign to put up...what should I put on the sign?

Call to complain if you like: The offending corner was the cemetery on the corner of Milam Rd and Lees Lake Rd.

My street corner with my new sign. You can see it as you drive. Have a suggestion on what else I should put up?

Confession

You have seen the Sham-Wow and the Chop thingy...now a combined riff on both themes with a dose of spiritual well being to be advertised. Enjoy

UPDATE: Ok so it was not as good as last year, but I thought it worked well...it fooled my mom, and one brother and one sister (only for a moment with KGF). The color is technically the same. I thought I would go with a grainy photo (found on the interwebs). I also thought the funny way this post was formatted added to its uniqueness...and maybe believability? I hope you had a chuckle, guess you all can see through me so no April Fool's joke next year ;-)

Hypoglycemia, part 3

Third and fourth blood draws are done. Still sleepy. Almost done!!!!!

Hypoglycemia, part 2

Second blood draw...I am getting sleepy.

Hypoglycemia, and other stuff..,

Well I am starting this morning off at the Dr.'s office getting a
glucose tollerance test. They drew the first bit of blood, I drank the
orange drink (wow) and now I wait. This of course is nothing too much
to handle.

In other news my 93 year old grandmother broke her leg yesterday. So
keep a good thought and say a prayer for her and my grandpa and mom.

Rosie appears to be on the mend. Blood test last week seemed to
indicate that she is slowly getting better. Another test this week
should give us a much better idea if where she is healthwise. Thanks
for your thoughts and prayers.
