Mukhtars Fødselsdag

This is a great video from a bunch of great folks who threw a surprise birthday part for their favorite bus driver Mukhtar. A great video. They are singing the Danish "Happy Birthday song". Be aware this kind of love might make you cry a bit. Enjoy!

Here are the lyrics...maybe we should redo our song?...'cause this one is great!

Today is "Name of person celebrated"'s birthday
Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!
He'll probably get a present
For which he has been wishing
All with tasty chocolate and cakes.

Oh, how he smiles; how happy he is
Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!
But then, this day sure is nice
cuz' "Mom and Dad, whoever birthdayboy lives with" are waiting at home
with tasty chocolate and cakes.

And when he goes home from his "school, place of work"
Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!
He'll be going home to throw a party
And all those invited as guests
Get tasty chocolate and cakes.

Immigration info-graphic

"Get in line" is said quite a bit about immigration. Here is an info graphic to help you understand what the "line" looks like...oh and make sure to see how long it takes to actually become a citizen. Not like when my grandfather and his siblings came over, it fact it is very very different. We need comprehensive immigration reform and we needed it about 25 years ago! Some more info from the US Bishops and their Just for Immigrants campaign.

New things for St. Matthew and for me

We had a nice town hall meeting at St. Matthew tonight. A report on religious ed, some q&a about the new translations of the Mass and it hopeful implementation in Advent of 2011 and...the fact that this will be my last year at St. Matthew. Yes it is true, this time no joke. The plan right now is that I will go back to school to get another masters degree this fall. It will be a ThM (Catholic Social Teaching concentration) from Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. It is something I have been praying about for quite some time and Archbishop Gregory has been very supportive. I will tell you that this is not a done deal, as anything can change, but I am hopeful nothing will stand in my way. One great piece of news is that the school has awarded me a fellowship which will cover 50% of my tuition. I am really looking forward to focusing on academics for a year...and a chance to do a bit more work for CRS. If things go as I think they will, I will be at St. Matthew until the beginning of July and then begin school at the end of August. So there you have it. If you have any questions just let me know. Peace to you all and have a Happy Lent. Padre Vic

Catholic Day at the Capitol

M. Alexander Georgia Bulletin

Did I tell you that Jose and I went to Catholic Day at the Capitol? Oh right I forgot, because I forgot to bring my camera to catch photos etc... Many thanks to the staff at the Georgia Bulletin here is some news about it...and the participation of some of our St. Matthew youth from Our Lady of Mercy. They also have some great coverage of Fr. Dan Stack and his sabbatical and some news about the Cardinal Kasper visit. While I applaud the Georgia Bulletin for their excellent coverage of yours truly in the past few weeks they need to know that when you are 10 feet away from the action and there are two other people closer to the ball...no one is weaving around you!

On Sunday the 14th of March I went with a group of our teens from PRISM and SMATT7 along with members of our St. Vincent de Paul Council to the Atlanta Hunger Walk/Run. Thanks to all who have supported the Hunger Walk...and if you did not get the chance to donate you still can on their website. Here are some photos. Thanks and enjoy!

Well the shoot-out went well. I went in my cassock and most thought I would shoot while wearing it...I had something else planned. Here are the photos.

I made $600 with my free throws and with St. Matthew having more people in attendance than Holy Trinity we also won $500 as well.
So for the whole night we made $1100 for the kids from St. Matthew who go to Our Lady of Mercy.

India-Pakistan!

I need to get to this border for this show. What fun!?!

A nice article about cats in prison.

Amazing work of cats in a prisons in Indiana. If you are a cat person you will like this article.

"The Assistant Superindent of the prison tells me, “I know there are people out there who think the offenders shouldn’t have cats. Some people don’t want them to have TV or anything to do. But I would support this cat program at any prison. Those cats humanize the men. The cats give them unconditional love, for many of those guys, that may be the only love they have ever experienced in their lives. And the bottom line for me, is that my staff are safer because of it. Every day that none of my staff gets hurt—that’s a good day. Watching over these guys is a dangerous job. And anything that makes that job safer is good with me.”"

Ekklesia

Every Christmas eve for as long as I can remember my family has sang the song "Mary had a Baby" and "Silent Night". Thursday, January 14, 2010

Just heartbreaking...and uplifting as well.

Check out this blog from a guy who is working to get clean water to the people in Haiti...something he has been doing before the earthquake. His name is Chris and the past two days have been a harrowing experience. Please make sure to pray for the people of Haiti and those affected by the earthquake. Make sure to read the whole post from his day when the earthquake hit. Pray and Give!

All I could see was her face and left arm, and she frantically called out to me. I asked her to calm down because it would help me to work and asked her to pray for both of us. She calmed down and became very brave. I was having trouble seeing her where she was jammed under the slab. I pulled out a very large piece of rubble that didn’t really help Jacqueline at all (her name was Jacqueline). There was some sort of object behind that rubble and when I went to move it it turned out to be another girl’s bottom. The girl cried out but I could barely hear her – her whole head was underneath rubble.
At this point I began to realize that I was in over my head. All I had was a hammer, and it was quickly becoming pitch dark with twilight fading and no electricity anywhere. I tried to borrow a flashlight, but it was impossible. I had a moment of feeling intense helplessness. After thinking and praying for a minute, I told Jacqueline that I had to leave her and find more help. I couldn’t do anything without a flashlight, and she needed to keep praying and remember that her parents were coming to look for her.

Haiti

Sorry this post is so late. Please PRAY for the people of Haiti! Also, if you can, GIVE to help them live and rebuild. More photos when I can compile a better post. If you need a link to give here is is:

.
This is an image of the Cathedral in Port au Prince.

PRAY

God of all creation, as we weep with our family in Haiti, console us.
In this time of crisis, open our eyes to look beyond the disaster
to see Christ in our brothers and sisters in Haiti, as Christ sees us.
Be with us as we stand in solidarity with those living and working in Haiti.
Be with us in our mourning and guide our efforts to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, comfort the grieving and stand for justice.
With your mercy, sustain us at this time as we continue to work for peace and justice.
Amen.
