June 25th is now Arbitrary Day

So you wonder where I get all my crazy video and news of the weird. Well I read a bunch of different sites. The one I read most frequently is Reddit. Well at Christmas time they had a gift exchange. They decided to do it again but this time just pick an arbitrary day. So now June 25th is now Arbitrary Day! It is a secret Santa type exchange and I played along this time. From their web page:

...modeled on the typical Secret Santa exchange, only with more online, and more awesome. Interested parties sign up, people are assigned gift recipients by the computer machine, and then they do their best to surprise and delight their random stranger, and are surprised/delighted in turn.

I have already sent off my gift and received mine as well. I got my gift from someone named zip_000 and I sent mine to a guy named cowlike...he did not give me much to go on so I had to use my creativity. I will include a link when he post receipt of the gift. I have included a picture here of what my gift was and you can go here to see more pictures of my gift and my write up. You can go here to see the gifts that people have gotten that the most people think were the most awesome, one guy got 1500$ and others got iPods and such...oh and plenty of bacon! Well you all know of my two wonderful cats. They are two great girls
who behave more like dogs. Since I am going back to school next year I
need to find a place for them to live for a year. So, do you have

New things for St. Matthew and for me

We had a nice town hall meeting at St. Matthew tonight. A report on religious ed, some q&a about the new translations of the Mass and it hopeful implementation in Advent of 2011 and...the fact that this will be my last year at St. Matthew. Yes it is true, this time no joke. The plan right now is that I will go back to school to get another masters degree this fall. It will be a ThM (Catholic Social Teaching concentration) from Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. It is something I have been praying about for quite some time and Archbishop Gregory has been very supportive. I will tell you that this is not a done deal, as anything can change, but I am hopeful nothing will stand in my way. One great piece of news is that the school has awarded me a fellowship which will cover 50% of my tuition. I am really looking forward to focusing on academics for a year...and a chance to do a bit more work for CRS. If things go as I think they will, I will be at St. Matthew until the beginning of July and then begin school at the end of August. So there you have it. If you have any questions just let me know. Did I tell you that Jose and I went to Catholic Day at the Capitol? Oh right I forgot, because I forgot to bring my camera to catch photos etc... Many thanks to the staff at the Georgia Bulletin here is some news about it...and the participation of some of our St. Matthew youth from Our Lady of Mercy. They also have some great coverage of Fr. Dan Stack and his sabbatical and some news about the Cardinal Kasper visit. While I applaud the Georgia Bulletin for their excellent coverage of yours truly in the past few weeks they need to know that when you are 10 feet away from the action and there are two other people closer to the ball...no one is weaving around you!

Hunger Walk

On Sunday the 14th of March I went with a group of our teens from PRISM and SMATT7 along with members of our St. Vincent de Paul Council to the Atlanta Hunger Walk/Run. Only two of us ran, the teen who ran came in 3rd, and I had my best time in a 5K ever--as far as I can recall. It was a great time had by all and here are some photos from the day. Well Cardinal Walter Kasper was in town this week and gave a number of talks around town. Wednesday evening he had Mass for the students at Emory. They had a deacon set and ready to go for the Mass but he got sick so look who took his place. Deacon Gayle did a great job! Congratulations Deacon Gayle!
